Hillary Clinton Runs From Sinbad’s Sniper Fire

26 03 2008

Yesterday, it became very apparent that Hillary Clinton told a bald-faced lie trying to bolster her foreign policy / commander-in-chief credentials by claiming experience during her “First Lady” years under her husband’s administration.  In previous years and generations, she probably would have gotten away with mincing the facts, but today is not that day.  Check out the video below, and see a true politician in action, caught red-handed, and then massacred by the media like sharks tasting blood in the water.  And who outed her?  Sinbad the comedian!

Osama Bin Laden Dead? Did Benazir Bhutto Leak Information?

6 01 2008

The author of http://awaitingparadise.wordpress.com/ posted a most interesting entry regarding an interview given by Benazir Bhutto after one of the failed assassination attempts.  In it, she mentions at 2:10 into the interview, “…and he also had dealings with Omar Shaykh, the man who murdered Osama Bin Laden,”

Now, in contrast, watch what is said (and not said) on BBC’s website - same interview, but with an interesting twist - at 4:50 - 5:00 min into the video in which those words were mentioned about OBL, instead a cut of the interviewer is seen and what was said about Osama Bin Laden was removed.

Another interesting thing to note - look to the emblem by Benazir’s shoulder - there’s an AlJazeera Watermark on the video.  So who really editted out the video, and why?  Hard to say.

Iowa Caucuses - Change beats Experience

4 01 2008

obamahuckiowa.jpgFor those keeping track of politics, Barack Obama has walloped Hillary Clinton, and Mike Huckabee has soundly thumped Mitt Romney.  Ron Paul came a somewhat respectable fifth with 10% of those caucusing for the Republicans.

Key phrases bandied about - the old guard got voted out, the people claiming experience (the experience that put the country in the war in the case of the Democratic senators running for office) were trounced, and those claiming they bring real change (as one pundit put it, not just in policy, but a new cast of characters) were tonight’s winners.

Despite this, my prediction remains Obama vs Romney for the White House, and as usual, no matter who you vote for, you’ll get the same thing in the end - it’s just a matter of how smart or stupid they are in concealing the reins of the special interests controlling them (and I know Obama says that’s not true of him, but I simply do not believe it).

I believe the Republicans are out next year, and Obama will be #44.

On a side note, I think Ron Paul will run as an independent because his message has a lot of popularity, but not enough to win the nomination from one of the big 2 parties.

Statement Regarding the “Qatif Girl” Case from Islamtoday.com

27 12 2007

From IslamToday.com

Before discussing the case in question, we feel it is important to clarify a common misconception that many people have about the judicial system in a state that operates within the parameters of Islamic Law. It is commonly assumed that every decision and every criminal sentencing in an Islamic country is derived directly from Islamic religious teachings and from sacred law. This is not the case at all.A court operating under Islamic Law will be obliged to carry out Islamic legal injunctions in the few instances where those injunctions are relevant. Otherwise, the judicial decisions of the court will be based upon the court’s application and interpretation of the country’s statutory law and on the discretion of the judge, as it is with purely secular legal systems.

Sami Yusuf Obsessions

4 12 2007

Last year, one of the internet controversies that gained a lot of forwarding time on email lists as well as forums was the topic of sister Yvonne Ridley’s scathing criticism of Sami Yusuf, his music, his British Patriotism, and the boy band culture surrounding various nasheed artists, particularly Sami Yusuf.

Azhar Usman responded, only to be cut down by sister Yvonne, and then Sami Yusuf responded, and so forth.  I had written a series of blog entries regarding my thoughts on the whole thing, and even went as far as to attend a Sami Yusuf concert to see firsthand what this was all about.  This is all on my old blog siraaj.wordpress.com.  As part of the write up, I kept copies of all statements (and even cleaned up punctuation errors for my own sanity) made by all involved as well.

As a result, my old site, though it’s been janazafied a long time ago, continually gets not only hits, but comments from many people, particularly sisters who think my site is Sami Yusuf’s site, and since those comments are in the public domain, I thought I’d reproduce them below for your amusement (and perhaps horrified astonishment).  The following comments were written in response to Sami Yusuf’s letter, which is a response to Yvonne Ridley’s letter.  In all, there are currently 66 comments (mostly from sisters), and I’ve reproduced only some of them (you can read the page in full here):

Awesome Dowry, Awesome Father

30 11 2007

love.jpgThis, by the way, was so astonishing, it made the column of Arabnews.com

Dowry of Coins Worth SR200

MAKKAH, 28 November 2007 — A father revealed an astonishing fact to guests attending his daughter’s wedding. He told the guests that he asked for only three Saudi silver coins worth about SR66 each, or about SR200, in total for his daughter’s dowry, the Al-Madinah daily reported yesterday.

Cases of exuberant dowry demands have been widely reported in the local media.  Often running into hundreds of thousands of riyals, many young men are often forced to postpone getting married.  Occasionally, reports are published about the opposite - fathers who ask for humble dowries, realizing that newlyweds need the money to start their lives.

But this is perhaps the first time a father has asked for collector’s coins that aren’t worth very much.  The father, who appreciated the sanctity of marriage, said his daughter’s happiness was of paramount importance and his dowry demand of three silver coins was merely symbolic. He later gave his blessings to the newlyweds and wished them a happy life.

The Media - Shoddy Work for Ratings

25 11 2007

imams22.jpg During the case of the Imams who were taken off their flight because people wrongfully assumed that a group of middle eastern men changing seats was indicative of terrorist activity, the initial news reports that came out of neo-con outlets when the story broke was that the men were kicked off the plane because they were praying on the plane! I know this because I was listening to the radio, and listening to a local Chicago radio show in which the two hosts were calling in others to debate the issue of whether people should be allowed to perform their prayers on a plane.  One of the hosts even took it a step further - these men probably did this so that in the future, they would be allowed to pray on planes.  Eventually, the details of the case came out, and no retractions or apologies were forthcoming in the case.

So why bring this up now?

MEMRItv Needs This Video

19 11 2007

Surfed over to mujahideenryder.net this morning and found the video below.  I wonder how the right-wing neo-con far right Christian Zionists would try to spin the content of the video below (video contains a lot of vulgar language, so viewer discretion is advised - so too is spreading the video across the internet and making sure it becomes very popular ;))

The Face of Corporate Greed

17 11 2007

art_ty_ziegel_before_after.jpgHave you ever wondered why it is that sports owners and general managers often seem to make decisions that appear contradictory to what fans want for their home team? Have you ever wondered why it is that politicians make so many promises when campaigning, but sing and dance another tune once they’re in office?

Don’t think too deeply on it - it’s the same thing that gets you out of bed in the morning bleary eyed searching for a caffeine wake up call, and it’s what many of us spent 4 or more years in college for.

That’s right, it’s those presidential greenbacks - money.

See that picture in my post - that’s Ty Ziegel, a marine who was badly wounded in Iraq.  The man lost bits and pieces of skull from the shrapnel, his left arm was amputated, and he’s missing a few digits on the right hand.
